A 55 foot bay
A 45 foot Class A motorhome, the maximum length permitted on Canadian roads, still leaves roughly ten feet front or rear. That is room for a workbench, seasonal storage, or a motorcycle.

Wide enough to open the slide-outs
This is the dimension that separates a garage from a shelter. At 19 feet of clear width, an 8 ft 6 in motorhome can deploy its slide-outs inside the building.
In practice: the vehicle stays livable while parked. You can load it, clean it, sleep in it or entertain in it without pulling it out and without depending on the weather.
